PROFILE

Born in the English Lake District Iain now lives in Warton near Carnforth, Lancashire. He aims to capture the landscape he grew up in where he walked and climbed the fells and crags. There are strong memories of the woods and hills of Cumbria with ever-present sheep and the hidden, forgotten places and edge-lands. Old mills, quarries and deep pools were places of discovery as a youth as well as the iron works and Backbarrow Blue Mills which are long gone. As a contemporary artist Iain uses strong colours in an impasto style. Because of this his paintings, when hung on the wall, change in mood according to the light.

After excelling at art in school Iain went on to win the end of year prize for art.

He was taught how to paint in oils over a period of seven years.

Iain has exhibited his work in galleries and art shows throughout the north of England since the 1970s and had a solo exhibition in 2012.

More recently he has worked with a team to bring Summer Arts to Kendal.

He is a member of Kendal Art Society and Kendal Arts Community.
